Attorneys
James E Goodman, Jr. was born in Erie, Pennsylvania. He graduated cum laude from Illinois State University in 1985 and obtained his law degree with distinction in 1988 from the University of Iowa. He was admitted to the Iowa Bar in 1988 and the Illinois Bar in 2001. Jim joined the firm in 1994 following positions as an Associate attorney with Shaff & Farwell in Clinton, Iowa and as a Trust Officer for American Trust & Savings Bank in Dubuque. He is a member of the American, Iowa State, Illinois State, and American Bar Associations and the Tri-State Estate Planning Council, serving as President from 1993-94. He serves on the Board of Directors and is responsible for public relations of the Dubuque Youth Hockey Association, Jim was a presenter for the Iowa State Bar Association's Fall 1992 Traveling Seminar, "Many a Tax Tip, a Trust and Estate Attorney Should Not Skip." He was also the author of "Fiduciary Income Taxation and Withdrawal Powers," published in Vol. 3, No. 2, Trust and Estate Law Report on February 4, 1993, and "Legal and Tax Consequences of Owning Property Jointly," Vol. 4, No. 4, Trust and Estate Law Report on August 5, 1994. Jim practices primarily in, but is not limited to the areas of estate planning, probate, and real estate law.
